Driver killed in head on crash in rural Hendry County

HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. -- Troopers say a Cocoa man was killed while trying to pass another vehicle on a rural road Thursday evening.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was driving an SUV northbound on Flaghole Road at 7:40 p.m. when he attempted to pass a slower northbound vehicle as another SUV was approaching southbound.

The two SUV's collided head-on, killing the driver of the SUV attempting the pass. Troopers have not released his name yet, but he is listed as a 46-year-old Cocoa resident.

Two occupants of the other SUV sustained minor injuries.
