Driver involved in 2018 hit and run arrested in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers Police Department received a 911 call about a traffic crash that had just occurred on SR 82, just west of River Trent Court on November 17th, 2018.

Officers observed two vehicles on the south side of SR 82, vehicle 1 was a black 2018 Volvo and vehicle 2 was a black 2016 Ford. The driver of vehicle 2, was pinned in the vehicle and the vehicle was on its side.

The driver of vehicle 1, fled the scene on foot after the crash. Lee County Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the driver of vehicle 2 to Lee Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

FMPD Officers along with deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and K9 officers were unable to locate the driver of the other vehicle.

Traffic Homicide Investigator Kristi Neroni continued the investigation.

After nearly 27 months, Officer Neroni was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Marvin Preston for Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash Involving Serious Bodily Injury in violation of Florida State Statute 316.027(2)(b)-Reckless Driving Causing Serious Bodily Injury, in violation of Florida State Statute 316.192 (3)(c)(2)- Possession of Controlled Substance, in violation of Florida State Statute 893.13 (6)(a).

Preston was arrested without incident on March 31, 2021, by the Fort Myers Police Department traffic homicide unit.
