FORT MYERS, Fla. — Several medical patients and advocates across the country are pushing to change CDC guidelines for prescribed pain medications.

Tuesday, they held "don't punish pain" rallies nationwide, including in Fort Myers.

In 2016, they say the federal government revised the guidelines to try to reduce the misuse and abuse of opioids.

Since then, some people believe it's become more difficult for patients in chronic pain to get the medication they need.

They say health care providers are either not treating it due to the CDC guidelines or limiting the amount of medication.
