Deputy presence along Summerlin Road leads to an arrest Friday morning

UPDATE (10:45AM) -- Police say a man was arrested Friday morning for stealing from a woman's purse at a Fort Myers shopping center.

25-year-old Antonyo Burns is charged with petit theft, resisting an officer and attempted carjacking without a weapon.

Police say the theft happened around 8 a.m. at the Colonial Crossings shopping center on Summerlin Road. Burns led officers in a pursuit to the area of Matthew Drive, where he was taken into custody and arrested.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – We are following a breaking story involving a heavy police presence Friday morning in Fort Myers.

Police have blocked off streets in the area of Summerlin Road and Matthews Drive. That’s near Bishop Verot High School.

There are reports of streets blocked off and helicopters in the area.
