A Naples man is accused of submitting fraudulent information to purchase a gun at a pawn shop, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

According to an arrest report, Robert Whalen, 56, attempted to purchase a pistol from First Pawn Jewelry and Loan Store in February.

In order to purchase a firearm, the prospective buyer must complete an ATF Form. According to CCSO, Whalen signed a document indicating that he was never convicted of a felony and had the right to posses a firearm. Whalen's criminal history indicated that he was convicted of guilty charges of felony in 2001 and in 1996.

On Thursday, deputies obtained the original ATF form that Whalen signed and quickly determined that he provided false information.

He was arrested and face charges of providing False Information to Purchase a Weapon.
