Residents on 40th Street SW in Lehigh Acres looked out of their doors Sunday to find their street blocked off at the Lee County Sheriff's Department investigated a body that was found in a ditch on the side of the road.
One of those neighbors was Maris Encinosa who came home to find the sheriff's deputies blocking off her street when she returned home from out of town.
"We got home around two and they were already here with the street blocked off and everything", she told Fox 4.
Neighbors told Fox 4 that someone called the deputies after they found the body while they were out earlier that morning. The sheriff's deputies have been investigating since the call came in. Neighbors say that was at around ten o' clock this morning. They also told Fox 4 that a crime like this is unusual on their block.
"That's crazy. I'm not really used to hearing about stuff like that going on around here", said Jared Hall.
Hall recently moved to the area to be with family. He told Fox 4 that an incident like this one is abnormal on his block.
"I'm not used to this kind of stuff happening. I'm used to practically zero crime at all so, you know, like hearing about a dead body on the side of the road, that's crazy", he said.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office has not released any details at this time but Fox 4 learned that the investigation is still ongoing.
