Florida Highway Patrol investigators have arrested a Cape Coral man for DUI after troopers say he crashed into two people on Metro Parkway, killing one of them.

The crash closed Metro Parkway for several hours overnight.

According to FHP, the crash happened  just before midnight Thursday near the intersection with Topaz Court.

Troopers tell Fox 4 that 21-year-old Michael Bortolametti was driving south on Metro Parkway with two passengers in the car when they came upon two people standing in the left lane of Metro Parkway, next to a motorcycle in the turn lane.

The car crashed into both people, identified as 42-year-old John Simone of Cape Coral and 26-year-old Marie Taylor of Fort Myers.  Simone was pronounced dead at the scene.  Taylor was treated for minor injuries at Lee Memorial Hospital.

Troopers say the crash was alcohol-related, and Bortolametti was arrested on DUI charges and booked into the Lee County Jail.
