CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- When coyotes are lurking around Cape Coral, there might be a way to keep your pets safe from becoming a breakfast meal. It's a product called a Coyote Vest meant to be worn by small dogs.
“It would be tragic, because he would not know how to defend himself," said Andrew Chehardy, dog owner of Capitan Andy.
Chehardy says that his dog is a service dog and he depends on him for both emotional support and medical help. He says he fears with the coyote sightings around Cape Coral in the past year, Andy could become a snack.
Chehardy along with other dog owners tell Fox 4, they would consider getting a Coyote Vest. A vest made for small dogs covered in spikes, whiskers and even a tazor.
“If I lived out in the woods, this would be something I consider," said another dog owner.
But other owners worry the vest would be uncomfortable for a dog to wear.
“I don’t know, small dogs don’t really like jackets anyway," explained Margaret Woods. "Unless they’re one of those really small ones that like being dressed up.”
Coyote Vests can be found online at sites like Coyotevest.com.
They typically run from $20-$100 depending on what is included on the vest.
