PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Phase one for the new Sunseeker Resort in Port Charlotte begins Wednesday morning.

The Allegeant Travel Company partnered with TPG Sixth Street partners to create the Sunseeker Resort. It's set to be the biggest of its kind in the area, as a 20-acre resort complex along the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor.

The cost for phase one is $470 million, according to the resort. The complex will include 500 hotel rooms, meeting and conference space, in addition to restaurants and stores along Harbor Walk.

The resort complex is expected to bring in more than 500 construction jobs and more than 800 permanent jobs. They also want to create relationships with local colleges and universities to create even more jobs through their hospitality programs.

Officials say construction should be done between 18 and 24 months.
