Confirmed tornado in Cape Coral causes damage

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — There was a brief tornado early Saturday morning in NW Cape Coral. The NWS in Ruskin confirms that an EF-1 tornado with a path length of 1.03 mi and 100 yards wide occurred around 645 AM in the area of 26th Ave. The tornado only lasted about 2 minutes before lifting.

The Cape Coral Fire Department and other agencies are working in Northwest Cape Coral in the Van Buren/Coral Oaks area. Cape Coral Fire Department says there are no reports of injuries but there are damages to homes and vehicles.

They are asking the public to avoid the area.
