COLLIER COUNTY, Fla — Collier County Emergency Management officials introduced new technology that will allow residents to receive alerts on their phone or tablets.

Alert Collier can be accessed by signing up on the county's website.

You can choose to be alerted about approaching storms and wildfires, and those alerts can be customized, depending on where you live.

"If we have a major wildfire event. we can not only give you a notice that wildfire conditions are escalating, but also refine that message again and say all right now is the time to evacuate," said Collier County Emergency Management Director Dan Summers.

Users can also receive voice notifications on their work or landline.

"It can cover down through all, whether its prevention, protection of the public, response during an event and recovery after an event," said William Lang, Collier's Emergency Management Warning Coordinator.

Alert Collier will also send out an "all clear" letting evacuees, clean up crews and insurance adjusters know it's safe to go back into the neighborhood.

Everbridge, the company that developed Alert Collier says future anticipated alerts may include utility outages, road closures and law enforcement concerns.
