NAPLES, Fla. – Several Collier County groups will meet Tuesday to protest a measure that they say will make the community less safe.

287(g) is a measure that would give certain Collier County deputies some of the legal authority that the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has, when detaining illegal immigrants.

The Collier ACLU and NAACP say the measure promotes racial profiling.

The meeting is at 6:30 Tuesday night at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greater Naples, located on Napa Woods Way.

Then on Monday, December 11, citizens can voice their concerns at the annual public committee meeting for the Collier County 287(g) Steering Committee at 1pm at the Professional Development Cneter (615 3rd Avenue South in Naples).
