COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — The Collier County Sheriffs Office is warning those selling valuables online to be safe.
Deputies say in some instance’s sellers agree to meet buyers in a different place, and this sometimes can be unsafe.
Buyers have been known to take things and run. One case involved a victim being injured by a gun.
Collier Sheriffs offer several tips to stay safe while buying or selling things online:
Meet during the day, never after dark.
Always meet in a busy public place like a bank, shopping plaza, or gas station.
Look for places to meet that have surveillance cameras.
Bring a friend whenever meeting a potential buyer.
Trust your instincts. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t go.
