COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — The Collier County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the public how easy it is to have your vehicle stolen if you leave a key fob in a vehicle or if you leave your doors unlocked.

The Sheriff’s Office shared an incident that occurred in 2019, where a vehicle was stolen from the area of Berkshire Lakes.

The victim parked his Audi A8 in his driveway and left his key fob in the vehicle. A surveillance video showed the suspect starting the vehicle and then backing up.

The theft was noticed when his wife left early to head to the gym.

The Sheriff’s Office says between 2018 and 2019 the number of grand theft auto cases in Collier County has risen from 215 to 274 according to a Uniform Crime Report.
