CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A Charlotte County Sheriff deputy was involved in a hit-and-run car crash on Saturday afternoon.

The deputy's vehicle was traveling west on Midway Boulevard with emergency lights and siren active. Florida Highway Patrol said a car made a left turn from Aaron Street into the deputy's car, and to avoid a collision, the patrol car traveled off the road hitting a fire hydrant.

FHP said the car stopped for a moment and then fled the scene, traveling north on Midway Boulevard. The car was described as a silver 4-door passenger vehicle.

Anyone that may have witnessed this crash or has information about the other car is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800.
