FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla-- Four people are now home safe after being rescued from a sinking boat in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Coast Guard said the rescue took place approximately 6 miles south west of Sanibel Island.
A Coast Guard spokesperson said on Saturday, November 4th a mayday call went out around 7:30 p.m. from a boater stating he was taking on water, experiencing mechanical issues and in need of emergency assistance.
A Coast Guard boat reached the boat and 4 people within an hour and towed the boat to Sanibel Marina.
"This is an excellent example of how important it is for mariners to have a working VHF-FM radio aboard their vessel," said Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Miller.
No injuries were reported.
