LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The U.S. Coast Guard assisted a vessel with seven people aboard on Saturday after the boat began taking on water.
According to the Coast Guard, they sent a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium to the area off the north end of Pine Island, near Bokeelia, on Saturday.
They arrived to find a 15-foot pontoon boat taking on water through the sponson, but still able to make way. They escorted the boat back to the Burnt Store Boat Ramp.
“It’s important that people have all the right safety equipment and working communication equipment when going out on the water,” said Lt. David Figueroa, command duty officer at Sector St. Petersburg. “It’s important to always wear a life jacket, because you never know when it could save your life.”
The Coast Guard was assisted by Charlotte County Fire & Rescue and Lee County Sheriff's Office.
