LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Detectives are trying to identify a man they say attempted to rob a Lehigh Acres convenience store Wednesday night, but was instead confronted by a clerk.

It happened just after 11pm at the 7-Eleven store near the intersection of Sunshine Boulevard and State Road 82.

According to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, a black male, masked with a green bandana, jumped the counter and attempted to grab the cash register drawer.  The on duty clerk grabbed the suspect behind and a scuffle ensued.

After a brief struggle, which left the clerk with minor injuries, the would-be robber left the store empty handed.  Detectives believe he may have fled in a car that was waiting nearby.

The suspect is described as a young black male, approximately 5’8”, who wore a white shirt, khaki pants and a green bandana.

This incident comes one night after two other Lee County convenience stores were robbed.

Anyone with information on the identity and whereabouts of this suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.  Tips may also be made online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com or by submitting a tip on the P3Tips mobile app.
