City's annual fire hydrant inspection program begins Friday

Posted

FORT MYERS, Fla. --- The Fort Myers Fire Department are gearing up to kick off its annual fire hydrant inspection program on Friday.

The program inspect hydrants throughout the city to ensure that it performs properly and is reliable in case of an emergency.

Each month for the next six months, June to December, the fire department will complete inspections on hydrants in one of each of the six  station service areas. Residents living in the area will be notified with a flyer in their monthly water bill.

Social media accounts for the city will be used to update followers regarding work in the areas. According to city officials, it's not uncommon for residents to see yellow, brown or reddish tint to appear in their water.

If discoloration occurs, officials say residents should turn on their faucets and let the water run until it returns to normal. No further action should be required once the water runs clear.

If residents continue to see discoloration please contact the Public Works Operation Water Distribution Department at (239) 321-8100.
