City hires firm to clear toxic sludge site

Posted

The city of Fort Myers has contracted a firm to clean up the toxic sludge site in the Dunbar Community. They will be clearing trees and other vegetation from the area.

The city is also working to hire a business to safely remove the sludge.

This comes after community members banded together to sue the city for the sludge. That group is asking for more than $37,000 per day for each day of the violation. That violation goes back all the way to 1979. That would amount to well over $350 million.
