FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Lee County Schools will have to fill a big position. The county's Chief Academic Officer has resigned.

The district hired Dr. Wanda Creel back in 2017, when she was responsible for overseeing student learning, teaching, research and related areas connected to student success.

According to her resignation letter, despite hearing positive feedback about her performance, the district only offered to keep her on board as a consultant rather than renew her contract.

That's when Creel opted to use the rest of her time off and resign.

Superintendent Dr. Gregory Adkins released the following statement regarding Dr. Creel. “Dr. Creel did an outstanding job for this district. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
