FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A hospital employee was being treated for eye irritation Friday after a chemical preservative spill at Lee Memorial Hospital.
A spokesperson for the hospital tells Fox 4 that the chemical formalin was spilled Friday morning in a "negative pressure" room at the hospital; that's a room with a special ventilation system that prevents air from escaping the room.
No patients were affected.
Fort Myers Police responded to assist with the cleanup, which is complete.
Formalin is a solution of formaldehyde and methanol often used as a preservative.
