Officials are investigating the sudden death of an inmate at Charlotte County Jail on Wednesday. He was found unresponsive in his cell at 5:15 p.m. after last being checked at approximately 5:00 p.m, police said.
According to police, his cell was in a lockdown pod where inmates have no contact with each other. Charlotte County EMS, jail medical staff and detention officers attempted to resuscitate, but he was declared deceased at 5:48 p.m.
At this time police cannot locate next of kin and can't release his information. A phone line has been established for families to call and confirm the status of their incarcerated family member. The deceased is a white male in his 50's.
