CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — The Charlotte County, Economic Crimes Unit, has seen a rise in Craigslist scams.
Many of the victims sent money to a person without verifying; they were not a scammer.
They used PayPal when sending a payment electronically.
The Sheriffs Office Offers tips on how to avoid these scams:
- Deal with the person face to face
- Do not provide payment until you have met the person
- Never wire funds
