COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Naples Police have filed a Second Degree Murder charge in the shooting death of an Immokalee man in 2016.
26-year-old Shabazz Lester of Naples was already in the Collier County Jail on unrelated charges, and is now accused of murder.
According to Naples Police, on November 11, 2016, victim Anthony Sanchez was found laying on the ground in the 500 block of 14th Street North with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Naples Community Hospital, where he died from his injury.
Based on the evidence obtained during the investigation, it was determined that Lester’s actions were responsible for the killing and murder of Anthony Sanchez by shooting him with a firearm.
On July 10, 2018, Naples Police Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Lester.
“This heinous act took place during the day when children could potentially be playing and neighbors out for a walk. I am proud of my detectives and community policing officers that worked so diligently to solve this case and remove a violent felon from our community," says Chief Weschler.
