State Road 82 is considered one of the most dangerous roads in Southwest Florida, according to experts Fox 4 spoke with at a meeting at Gateway Unity Church Thursday.
Representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation revealed new plans that will make the long stretch of road safer for everyone.
"It's gonna go from two lanes to six. We'll be adding sidewalks and bike lanes", Zack Burch of the FDOT told Fox 4. He says that the proposed plan will hopefully cut down on the number of accidents that happen so frequently on State Road 82.
The project is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 16th and is scheduled to take about two years.
Fox 4 spoke with a few drivers who travel on State Road 82 said they are happy the construction is happening. They're hoping that the expansion will make it easier for the many people who drive it on a daily basis.
One of those drivers is Paul Gordon who says the changes to State Road 82 are needed to cut down the number of dangerous crashes that happen there. "Safety on the road is number one. Accidents happen all the time on Road 82", he told Fox 4.
