Changes coming to Bell Tower Shops

LEE COUNTY, Fla — Two well know local eateries will close their doors at the end of April.

Management at Cru, which has been open since 2004, announced they will close April 28th.

"It’s definitely bittersweet, it’s hard to see something that’s been an establishment throughout the years, a 15 year run, go by the wayside," said General Manager Christopher Lallo.

Lallo says Bell Tower management never offered to renew Cru’s lease, even after the restaurant suffered through sagging business during a construction project at the mall.

“By the time they were finished and done, that’s when I feel the decision was made, they were going to go toward more of a corporate chain and push the little guy out."

"A key component in our year-long comprehensive redevelopment at Bell Tower is the addition of new restaurants, boutiques and retail stores, and we’re excited to welcome Burntwood Tavern to bell tower," said Samantha Lillard, Senior General Manager at Bell Tower.

The announcement comes days before the grand opening of another chain restaurant, Dave and Busters.

Its neighbor at Bell Tower, Bistro 41 is preparing to close at the end of the month after a 20 year run.

“I don’t like it, I prefer going to non chain restaurants owned by people. You have better food, better quality and they’re busy,” said Customer Diane Deacon.

Bistro 41’s manager told 4-In-Your Corner, Bell tower wanted to raise their rent an additional $4,000 a month, so they had no choice but to leave.

No word on what will replace Bistro 41.
