COLLIER COUNTY, Fla — Collier County Public Schools announced on Tuesday that it would allow limited spectators during fall sporting events and activities.
In an email sent out to all high school parents, Superintendent Dr. Kamela Patton said The Department of Health in Collier County recently provided an update to them.
She says people will be able to attend the events, on a limited basis, if Collier County's positivity rate for COVID-19 decreases to 5%.
Dr. Patton says that is the percentage of people who test positive for the virus of those overall tested.
She also says Collier County is currently not at that required threshold.
When fans are allowed to attend sporting events, CCPS will prioritize parents, and everyone will be subject to all health and safety guidelines. Dr. Patton says that includes social distancing, masks, limited concessions.
"To continue expanding our activities at school and in the community, WE all make a difference in lowering the positivity rate," Dr. Patton said.
"Reducing the two-week average positivity rate below the 5% requires shared responsibility from everyone in our community."
CCPS is still investing in technology to stream football and volleyball games for everyone to watch in real-time.
