A panther killed a Golden Gate woman's cat Friday night. The incident comes almost a week after a family's goat was killed by a Panther off Smith Road.
A surveillance camera caught the panther chasing down the goat and dragging it into the woods.
On April 17th, a family living on 18th Avenue Northwest had their two goats killed by a panther. "We have more people living out here, deciding to have livestock, the problem is protecting your livestock," said Cynthia Gilbert.
Gilbert runs a horse rescue off Everglades Boulevard. She only keeps thoroughbreds, but smaller horses, goats, chickens and cats can easily fall prey to a panther.
A fence may not be panther proof, but there are other things you can do to protect your animals.
"Building an enclosure, putting on lights at night, putting on a radio," said Gilbert.
Gilbert will be holding a seminar about protecting animals from Panthers at her rescue Wednesday beginning at 6:30. It will be held at 3847 2nd Avenue Southeast.
