CAPE CORAL, Fla -- The Cape Coral Police Department is investigating a crash with serious injury, that sent a car into a canal.

The single vehicle crash happened late Tuesday night.

Early Wednesday morning, Fox 4’s Breaking News Tracker watched investigators tow the white Mustang from the water.

The crash happened near the corner of El Dorado Pkwy W and SW 14th Avenue.

Once the car was pulled from the water, Major Crash Investigators used flashlights to closely investigate it.

We also spoke with the neighbor who dialed 911, moments after she heard it happen.

"We could immediately hear a car speeding really fast down the street. It sounded like it was kind of swerving and skidding, and then it hit something. But it was kind of like a weird noise, like it wasn't a tree. We immediately looked at each other and knew something had happened and ran out of the house. My husband ran out very fast to get down there, and then I called 911," said Lori Alter.

We are working with CCPD to learn more about the crash. Including the status of the person with serious injury, whether any passengers were in the car, and the cause of the crash.
