Cape Coral's Citizen Police Academy Class under way

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The Cape Coral Police Department’s 43rd Citizen Police Academy Class is under way.

The class began last week, and attendees are learning a variety of police related topics and will be placed in scenarios that Officers face everyday.

The citizens will be taught the following topics:
-How to direct traffic
-How to interview suspects/victims
-What the SWAT team does/when they can be used
-How to complete a traffic stop
-What to do during shoot/don’t shoot scenarios
-Learn what the K-9 unit does
-How to drive the police pursuit course
-How to shoot guns
-Many more topics.

The relationships that are developed during this academy can last a lifetime. This is a ten week program that meets on Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm-9:30 pm in the Cape Coral Police Department training rooms.

Tactical Driving is conducted off-site and during daylight hours on a Saturday.
