FORT MYERS -- Work is under way in Gulf Coast Town Center to open Fort Myers' first Cat cafe, featuring free-roaming cats that are up for adoption.
The owners of Cattyshack Fort Myers say they expect to open in January 2020.
They plan to offer coffee, pastries, beer and wine, all while helping some of the many homeless cats and kittens in Southwest Florida.
The cafe will feature two main separated areas: the food/cafe side, and the cat side, separated by a glass wall.
They say the cats will be provided and vetted by Gulf Coast Humane Society, who will ensure they remain happy and healthy while waiting for their new homes.
In the meantime, they've started a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds for the cafe.
