Butterfly release planned in Fort Myers to commemorate victim's rights

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Fort Myers Police Department is hosting a special event to mark National Crime Victim's Rights Week in downtown on Sunday.

The Fort Myers Police Department’s Victim’s Advocate office will conduct a butterfly release in Centennial Park on Sunday April 14, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.

The release follows a proclamation by the Mayor of Fort Myers, Randy Henderson, that named the week of April 7th - 13th Crime Victims’ Rights Week to honor the rights of victims to be heard and treated with fairness, dignity and respect.

The event will be held to express gratitude and appreciation to the community members, law enforcement professionals and victim service advocates who are committed to victims of crime and provide them with support and assistance.

The release event is free and open to the public and media.

Centennial Park is located in Downtown Fort Myers at 2000 W. First Street next to the US 41/Caloosahatchee Bridge overpass.
