Burglars ransack cars in quiet Lehigh Acres neighborhood

Posted

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla., -- A 32" Panasonic flat screen television, a Michael Kors purse and 5 pairs of Nike Air Jordan sneakers among the items one resident says thieves stole from their unlocked car early Tuesday morning.

Neighbors say they heard a loud bang, a sound they thought was fireworks around 2am July 4th.

But that noise turned out to be something much different for those living in the Meadows at Mirror Lakes community in Lehigh Acres.

Lee County deputies are now investigating after burglars went driveway to driveway targeting unlocked cars inside the community.

The neighborhood is referred to as 'Little Naples' among residents who live there who are surprised by the burglaries.

"It was a little scary and disheartening," said Tracey Barnes, a burglary victim.

"Last night it was really hard for me to fall asleep because you never know what can happen," said India Sanders Barnes, Barnes daughter.

Barnes says they had four cars in the driveway that night. Two were unlocked and the burglars ransacked both cars, getting away with hundreds of dollars worth of stuff.

If you have any information on the burglaries, you're urged to call the Lee County Sheriff's Office or Crimestoppers.
