A 6th grade student at Bonita Springs Middle School Center for the Arts was arrested for brining a pocket knife to school Friday.
A parent, who wanted to stay anonymous, told Fox 4 that his son was threatened by the student.
"He put the knife to my son's leg and side, and he said: "Give me the money."
The parent says he's considering pulling his son and daughter out of the charter school because this isn't the first time his kid has been the subject of violence.
Last month he says his son's name was on a "hit list" put together by another student. But the Lee County School district said its investigation found there was no such note.
The parent says the district isn't taking his concerns seriously.
"Definitely a lack of urgency and definitely a lack of alarm. It seems it just wasn't a big deal."
Principal Melissa Laynor sent an email to parents Friday addressing the knife incident.
“We had an isolated classroom incident of a student in possession of a pocket knife. Due to another responsible student stepping forward and reporting the incident to the teacher immediately, administration, along with our school resource officer, responded immediately and contained the situation within minutes," she said.
"The student in possession of the pocket knife has been arrested, and we will work swiftly through the discipline process at the school level. We continue to send the strong message that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated," said Laynor.
The school district also brought in a second school resource officer to Bonita Middle. That deputy will be posted at the entrance to the school.
