CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — One man is dead after being hit by a car while riding down Piper Road on his bicycle on Friday.
The 63-year-old bicyclist was pronounced dead Saturday from fatal injuries, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver was traveling along the outside lane, and the bicyclist was traveling along the paved apron of the road, in front of the vehicle.
FHP said when the driver began to drift over into the paved apron section where the man was riding his bike, it hit the man and the bike flew into the driver's windshield. The driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The bicyclist's next of kin has not been notified, according to FHP.
