LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- A hostage situation inside a gated community in Lehigh Acres has ended peacefully after some tense moments early Tuesday morning.

This happened around 1 a.m. in the Majestic Golf Club along Homestead Road South, where neighbors had to be evacuated in the middle of the night.

We spoke with neighbors who tell us they heard several rounds of gun shots. They even tell us deputies are evacuating the neighborhood to keep people safe. Most neighbors have since been allowed back into their homes.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office says they were serving a warrant at a home when the suspect resisted arrest and fired shots at deputies, who returned fire.

A huge deputy presence responded to the neighborhood, including SWAT.

Several neighbors were woken up by deputies telling them they needed to evacuate the area. At one point deputies have to throw neighbors to the ground as they were evacuating due to shot being fired.
