CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A scary moment for any parent. A man is in custody for attempting to steal a woman's purse while she was holding her baby.

Cape Coral Police arrested 46-year-old Hugh Jervis Saturday. They say they received a call on May 10 about a robbery in progress at the Bank of America on Cape Coral Parkway East.

A witness says they saw Jervis attempting to snatch the woman's purse before taking off in a black Kia Soul.

The victim suffered a minor injury, and was also wearing an infant in a carrier at the time of the robbery attempt.

Jervis was later found with a crack pipe and a baggie of Fentanyl. He was arrested and transferred to the Lee County Jail.

He's charged with Robbery by Sudden Snatching, Child Abuse, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Without a Prescription (Fentanyl).
