On Halloween, dozens of neighborhoods will be filled with kids trick-or-treating, but this year there's another concern. Parent's are concerned after four attempted kidnappings in Southwest Florida over the past three weeks.
One of those people is Anne Oldfield who says she used to worry about her children;s safety and now she''s worried her grandchildren are also at risk.
"As a parent and a grandparent it's something you always worry about in the back of your mind, but I think people always take advantage of any situation where kids are exposed", she told Fox 4.
After the Collier County Sheriff's Office released sketches of two men who attempted to lure kids away from their parents and a another man tried to snatch a three-year-old away from her mother at the Edison Mall, families are staying vigilant.
"Basically it's neighborhood policing you know?" That's what William Vicars told Fox 4 when asked how he's keeping his little ones safe while trick-or-treating.
"Just Watching, seeing what's going on. If something looks not right than call the authorities."
Here's how you can stay safe while going out on Halloween
- Stay with your kids wherever they go
- Play where you're going ahead of time and try to stick to neighborhoods you know are safe
- Bring a flashlight, especially if you're wearing a dark-colored costume
- Make sure you can see clearly in your costume. Wear face makeup instead of a mask if you need to
- Add reflectors to your costume so drivers can see you
