TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- The Florida Democratic Party has picked a replacement candidate to run in April Freeman's place.
Freeman died suddenly last week. The cause of her death hasn't been released yet, but the Associated Press reports she had recent heart issues.
The party has chosen Allen Ellison to run in Freeman's place. Ellison is from Highlands County and founded the Center for Economic and Policy Development to facilitate economic growth throughout Central Florida and rural parts of the country.
He will face off against Greg Steube for the seat. Ellison will compete for Florida's 17th District Congressional seat which includes Charlotte County, parts of Fort Myers, Arcadia and Okeechobee.
