CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- At least 11 people were displaced after a fire spread to multiple units at a Cape Coral apartment building.
Fire crews responded to 1118 SW 47th Terrace at 9:10 A.M. Monday morning.
A FOX 4 reporter spoke to the teen who was in the apartment when the flame ignited. He tells us that he heard a loud pop and suddenly his chair was on fire. "I was just sitting in my chair and all the sudden I hear a loud popping noise and I smell smoke," said Chandler Naiduk. "I was trying to pull my chair back and get it away from the drapes, but as soon as I got back from looking for a fire extinguisher, the entire chair was engulfed in flames."
Naiduk could not find a fire extinguisher and evacuated the building, telling his neighbors to evacuate as well, before he called 911.
The family believes it was an electrical fire but officials are still investigating the cause.
Families in the building were safely evacuated but crews are still searching for pets that could possibly still be inside.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
