ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — As Suncoast Humane Society (SHS) celebrates its 50th Anniversary as a regional no-kill animal welfare organization, an anonymous donor is inspiring the community's generosity by offering a $15,000 matching gift. Every dollar donated, up to $15,000, will be matched dollar-for-dollar; that means twice as many animal lives can be saved.
Donations make it possible for every animal’s needs to be met, from vaccinations and spay/neuters, to managing injuries, illness and more. The average cost for each animal for these services is $450. Monetary donations allow SHS to take in hundreds of animals who have nowhere else to turn, from Tampa and Lake City to Ft. Myers, and provide them with a brighter future.
Donor support also helps to keep the humane society's Community Pet Food Bank stocked so that families struggling financially, many due to the effects of COVID-19, can feed their pets.
SHS is much more than just a shelter. In the span of 50 years, SHS has treated over 80,000 clinic patients, dedicated over 19,000 hours to provide Pet Therapy services, and redistributed over 150,000 pounds of pet food to individuals struggling to feed their pets and to organizations who help to provide for those in need.
