NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Animal Refuge Center is participating in the Bissell Pet Foundation’s (BPF) Empty the Shelters event Dec. 9 to 13. All cat and dog adoptions will cost only $25.

Families interested in adopting a pet should complete an application for pre-approval at http://animalrefugecenter.com/adoption-application and then call ARC at 239-731-3535 to schedule an appointment.

The ARC has approximately 80 Cats and 28 dogs available for forever homes.

All animals have been spayed or neutered, have had vaccines appropriate to age, have been tested for FIV/FeLV (cats) and heartworm (dogs). They have also been micro-chipped and come with one month of free pet insurance. Adoptable animals can be viewed at www.animalrefugcenter.com

“We are excited to be part of this five-day event,” says ARC Board Vice President Rob Spicker. “We have plenty of kittens and cats and dogs of all sizes in need of their forever home. The more we can find loving and responsible homes for the better.”

This marks the Bissell Pet Foundation’s seventh Empty the Shelters event in 2020 alone. Since the program’s inception in 2016, BPF has helped 40,550 shelter pets find forever homes.

“It’s so important to choose adoption,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “So many people want to bring a pet into their home at this time of year. With the overwhelming number of pets in shelters, why not give them a chance? Without you, there really is no tomorrow so please consider adoption first.”

Although pets can feel like a gift in terms of the joy they bring to your life, BPF reminds prospective pet parents that bringing a pet during the holidays is a long-term commitment. It’s important to make sure everyone in your household understands the new furry family member is a permanent addition.

The Animal Refuge Center is Southwest Florida’s largest no-kill shelter. Once an animal is accepted into its care, it will not be destroyed to make room for another. ARC is one of nearly 170 shelters taking part in December’s Empty the Shelters adoption event.
