PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — UPDATE 7:23PM: A PIO with Bayfront Health Hospital, Bevin Holzschuh says all 20 kids were treated and released from that hospital.

Students and staff were evacuated from Port Charlotte Adventist School today after a possible hydrochloric acid spill according to Charlotte County Fire & EMS. The incident happened about 1:43pm.
Hazmat is on scene determining what the substance was. Charlotte County Fire & EMS says staff was removing a substance from a closet in the science room and accidentally spilled it.
There were about 30-40 students in the class room at that time and they immediately evacuated the school.
About 40 students who were having symptoms were taken to local hospitals. Charlotte County Fire & EMS says the children are okay and were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

No major problems but about 30 students are being transported to local hospitals as a precaution.

Charlotte County Fire & EMS special operations squad is on the scene to test chemicals and ensure it is safe for students and staff to re-enter the school.
About 30 students are going to transported to the hospital as a precaution to be checked out due to various complaints.
