LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- Abigail the Pit Bull, who was rescued from abuse last year, is now up for the American Humane Hero Dog Award. She's already won the Emerging Hero Dog award.
Abigail was rescued from Miami-Dade County in November. The Lehigh Acres rescue group Love is Furr Ever, believes Abigail was the victim of dog-fighting, based on her injuries, which include a missing ear.
Abigail now lives in her forever home with Megan Contreras, who adopted her in June. She's training to be a therapy dog now.
The winner is selected by a vote; you can find that here. Contreras and Abigail will travel to California next month for a four day event.
