Lehigh Acres Fire Rescue were called to a brush fire Thursday morning.

The fire broke out in a wooded area near W. 18th Street and Palmetto Avenue in Lehigh Acres. It happened around 1:30 in the morning.

The state Fire Marshal said an abandoned car caused the fire. They found the burned-out car on the Fox Canal nearby.

Chief Chad Ketron said the fire spread to about a quarter acre before being contained. They used a mixture of water and foam to put out the brush fire.

The Chief said there were no injuries and no homes were affected.

The Florida Forest Service is keeping an eye on the scene and are prepared to step in if ther are any flare ups. Right now, it's unclear how the car caught on fire. The Fire Marshal is still investigating.
