A crash involving a school bus in Punta Gorda sends two people to the hospital

UPDATE (5:33 PM) - Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Punta Gorda involving a Charlotte County school bus.

Investigators say the bus was traveling westbound on East Twin Lakes Drive when it was approaching the intersection of US-41.

They say a sedan was traveling in the left northbound lane of U.S 41 and was approaching the intersection of East Twin Lakes Drive.

Investigators say the driver of the bus stopped at the stop sign for the intersection and then continued into the intersection in front of the sedan.

The 19-year-old driver of the sedan collided with the rear left side of the school bus.

FHP says the sedan rotated counterclockwise in the left northbound lane and came to an uncontrolled stop.

Investigators say one student was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, and the other 14 student passengers were not injured.

Charges: Driver 1/ Vehicle 1: Violation of right of way from a stop sign.

The driver of the bus is being charged with Violation of right away from a stop sign.

An investigation is underway after a Charlotte County school bus was involved in a crash with injuries in Punta Gorda.

It happened on US-41 and E. Twin Lakes Drive.

Investigators say the accident involved a small four-door sedan and a school bus.

The 19-year-old driver of the sedan had to be extracted from her vehicle and was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital.

A student was also transported to the hospital with a wrist injury. Two other students were slightly injured but were taken home by their parents.

The school bus had `15 students on it plus the driver.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
