Fort Myers man dies in rollover crash on Michael G. Rippe near Briarcliff Road

UPDATE 8:15:

A 60-year-old man from Fort Myers was killed in a rollover crash at the intersection of Michael G. Rippe and Briarcliff Road.

The man was driving north in a van on Michael G Rippe Parkway (SR 739) and attempted to turn left when he drove into the path of a car traveling in the center south lane.

The front of the car collided with the right side of the van causing it to overturn and come to rest on the southwest corner of the intersection as the car came to rest in the grass shoulder.

The 24-year-old man from Altamonte Springs who was driving the car is in serious condition.

The crash remains under investigation.


3/2/2021 3 P.M.:
A fatal rollover crash has caused blockage of Michael G. Rippe Pkwy. near Briarcliff Rd. in South Fort Myers. Lee County Sheriff's Office has closed all traffic from Briarcliff to 41.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternate route.

The crash remains under investigation.
