IMMOKALEE, Fla. — A man is behind bars after stealing an elderly woman's purse at a bus stop in Immokalee Saturday just after 9 a.m.

The woman told deputies she was waiting for the bus at South 4th Street and Colorado Avenue when a man, who's been identified as 33-year-old Ricardo Silva, ran up to her and snatched her purse. After crying out for help, she told deputies three men nearby began chasing Silva. One of the men was able to catch him after hopping a fence in a neighborhood just a few blocks down the road.

Once deputies caught up with Silva, he told them he didn't take anything out of the woman's purse, although her cell phone was found on the ground a few feet away from the scene.

According to the arrest report, Silva asked deputies if he could apologize to the woman, but it doesn't specify if he actually got the chance to.

Silva is in custody at the Immokalee Jail Center.
