CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A 15-year-old girl told Cape Coral Police that she saw a peeping Tom watch her through the bathroom window as she took a shower just after midnight Monday. The incident reportedly happened on Southwest 7th Place near Skyline Boulevard. Police said that the suspect is still on the loose.

A police report states that when the girl's father went outside, he saw a white man wearing a dark-colored shirt and jeans standing outside the bathroom window, but that the suspect ran toward Skyline Boulevard when the father yelled at him.

"This is very scary," said Karina Ortega, who lives a few houses away from the girl's home. "We have young girls in this neighborhood."

Ortega said it wasn't the first time a peeping Tom has been spotted in the area. She said that she was sitting on her patio one night a couple of months ago when she saw a man trying to look into another neighbor's house.

"He was walking across the field to this young girl's bedroom," Ortega said. "So I'm watching, and I had someone on the phone. I said 'please stay on the phone, I see this guy, he's up to no good.' The guy seemed to hear me, and he ran off."

And that's not all - she said that her upstairs neighbor once saw a man peeping at Ortega, too.

"She said 'girl, I saw a man from my top balcony. He was in your kitchen window looking, and I wanted to catch him,'" Ortega said. "By the time she ran down, he ran."

Ortega said that her neighbors should light up their yards, and take the cover of darkness away from whoever is lurking in the neighborhood.

"Put the lights on the patios, the balconies," she said. "Whatever we can do to put more light back here. It's very dark."

A spokesman for the Cape Coral Police Department said that they stepped up patrols in the neighborhood since Monday's incident.
